Did you receive an unsolicited call or text message?

Phishing scams are on the rise. Some members have reported receiving unsolicited calls or text messages attempting to obtain card information.

Watch for these red flags:

  • A legitimate call or text from ECU will never ask for your full card number.
  • ECU will never request your CVV code.
  • Fraud alerts from ECU will include the specific merchant’s name.
  • ECU will never ask you to click a link to verify a card transaction.
  • Do not call the number a suspicious text message came from.

How to spot a fraudulent text message:

  1. Incorrect sender number. ECU text alerts come from short codes (5–6 digits), not standard phone numbers.
  2. No card number reference. Legitimate ECU alerts include the last four digits of your card.
  3. Unclear or missing merchant details. Real alerts specify where the transaction occurred.
  4. Suspicious links. Fraudulent messages may use unfamiliar or foreign domains (e.g., .de).
  5. Report and delete. If you receive a text like this, tap Report Junk and delete the message.
